Chicago, Illinois ~

With all the bad news we’ve heard lately in the national media about Chicago, you would wonder why someone would want to visit there.  It even was given the nickname, “Chiraq”  comparing it to the war zone in Iraq with all the violence and murders going on there.  While it is true that residents of Chicago have been victims of senseless gun violence in recent years, in fact, I think up to seventy people were shot the weekend I was there, one may want to go deeper to see what the root of the real problem is and what’s going on. Always see things for yourself.

During my visit, my friends and I stayed in the Downtown, business district area, and didn’t get an opportunity to go to the south and west sides of Chicago, where I heard most of the violence occurs in certain neighborhoods. I can imagine those areas are probably stricken with poverty, corruption, gangs, guns, and drugs; however, I know there are good people in those areas pleading desperately for help and want to show that those neighborhoods could be beautiful too. So, one has to look at the city council members, the mayor, the governor, and law enforcement on what are they doing to handle this situation for the better or are they contributing to the destruction of those areas like others.

I pray for things to improve soon. We heard the south side of Chicago has great food and we would love to discover some places! I will be back anyway to visit my dear friend Q, who said I must come back to party! You can not live life in fear and if there is anything I can do to help Chicago I certainly will!

Chicago From Above In A Plane

Inside O’Hare International Airport

Now, Downtown Chicago was beautiful and lovely. We didn’t experience any violence, and our overall stay was pleasant.  The Westin Chicago River North Hotel was where we stayed, and it was in walking distance or a short Uber/Lyft ride from everything! We only stayed two days, but we got to do a lot in the little time we had. Here are some things we did below:

The View From Our Suite In The Westin Chicago River North Hotel

Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria

Chicagoans told us Lou Malnati’s had the best deep dish pizza and they weren’t lying! We had wine and Bruschetta for our appetizer and for our entrée we tried “The Malnati Chicago Classic.” A small serves two, and you will undoubtedly need a knife and fork to eat. The pizza was rich and delectable. I couldn’t even finish all of mine! It was very filling.

Prices are reasonable, and the place has a great atmosphere.

Lollapalooza

I had no idea the music festival, Lollapalooza was occurring the weekend we were there! I wish I knew! We tried to get tickets, but they were all sold out! Bummer! Next time!

Millennium Park

It’s a cool thing to check out while in Chicago. It has free events and exhibits. Also, the well-known Cloud Gate “The Bean” is located there.

Can You See Where I Am?

Crown Fountain

Navy Pier

(In Daytime And Nighttime)

Located right on the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan. You can do some shopping, catch a boat tour to see Lake Michigan, the architecture along the Chicago River or enjoy amusement rides like the Centennial Wheel to see all of Downtown Chicago. Many things to do in this one area.

Architecture Boat Tour (In The Chicago River)

It was very informative with excellent views, but after a while, it got a bit boring. It was $37 for the ticket and 75 minutes for the tour. If architecture is your thing, then you will love it!

Willis Tower

We only had time to check out the Willis Tower and didn’t get a chance to go to the John Hancock Center, where the 360 Chicago observation deck and the famous tilt ride are. I recommend going to these places on a weekday to avoid long lines. The lines were still long on a Monday when we went but it wasn’t bad. It moved very quickly. Tickets for the Skydeck to go on The Ledge were around $24. It’s worth it for the incredible views you will see.

Portillo’s Hot Dogs

Not only do you have to try Chicago’s deep dish pizzas but you must try their hot dogs as well! Hot dogs are what Chicago is known for, and Portillo’s is one place you should go! Their Chicago styled hot dog with french fries are so yummy! I was happy I got two! Haha! When I come back to Chicago, I definitely will be stopping at this restaurant again!

Chicago’s Nightlife

Chicago’s nightlife is nowhere near like New York City or New Orleans, where partying is every day, 24/7. Like our Lyft driver told us, “Chicago sleeps at night,” and that was very true! I must cut Chicago a little slack since we went out on a Monday, and most places are not lively on that day. However, my friend Q who is from there said it would be better to come on a weekend to party. Indeed I will!

The Godfrey was a decent rooftop, but the service sucked! We stay there for a bit before moving on to find other spots.  After searching for a while, we just ended up calling it a night.

Chicago Theatre

I was furious I didn’t get to catch the Chicago Theatre sign lite up like it is usually every night. It makes such a great picture! I don’t know why they decide to turn it off the day I wanted to see it! Figures!

Giordano’s

I have to say Lou Malnati’s pizza was better than Giordano’s, but I like the flavor of Giordano’s sauce on their pizza. Plus, they have great lunch specials! You get a drink and a pizza with a side order for a low price!

Chicago Lakefront Trail

This trail is where you can run, ride a bike, enjoy some beaches, go to a museum, or visit the aquarium while catching a glimpse of  Lake Michigan. Tons of stuff to keep you occupied. The views are very soothing, so relaxing on the trail is how we ended our trip!

Chicago was very entertaining with so much to do! Again, I will be back! Much love!
