Country Cookin ~

There is a little restaurant in North Philadelphia that has so many people talking and traveling from all across the United States to taste the food, my friend Nell and myself included. From social media alone, it has been gaining the recognition of many celebrities and others.

Country Cookin Restaurant with its owner Saudia Shuler is making a mark on the food scene like no other. Not only is this soul food restaurant bringing positive attention to North Philly with its food but with the leadership of its owner, it is making sure to become a prominent business within the community through book bag drives and fit camps for children as well.

I had the chance to meet Ms. Saudia personally and speak with her about all her success, which she told me wasn’t easy. She has been doing this for 13 years. It started from her house to a bar to where she is currently, and it has become so popular that she will be moving to a bigger spot very soon; and doing all of this while overcoming health issues. She is indeed a warrior and such a sweet person. She makes everyone feel like you are apart of her family and at home. A true treasure!

The Food

My friend Nell, who flew in from New Orleans, had the Asian Breast Bites with baked macaroni. I had the Cuban Turkey Wings with baked macaroni and cabbage; both items are served with rice. Everything was very flavorful and savory. The cabbage and baked macaroni were very scrumptious, and I don’t even like macaroni, so that tells you what all you need know! Plus, everyone can not cook cabbage, and Ms. Saudia put her foot into it, baby! Haha! And let me say, please order the Cuban Turkey Wings. You will eat it all way to the bone! (There is a picture of me on Country Cookin’s Instagram if you think I’m lying) Ha! The meat was so tender and juicy for both entrées. You will love it! I must warn you that both items are a bit spicy especially the Asian Breast Bites, so make sure you specify if your palate is not a spicy one. I’m sure they will accommodate you.

Here Are Few Things To Know Before You Go:

This location is small and can get packed quickly. It has only been open for a year and has taken off very fast, so the restaurant is still working out the kinks. There is only outdoor seating, but there are tents. The food takes a while, but be patient. It’s worth the wait! Trust me! Also, the menu changes often and it’s a bit pricey but understandable with the amount of food you receive, which is an entrée with rice and two sides. In fact, two people can share a plate. It’s that big! They are open Thursday-Sunday 12-10p.m. but close at 8 p.m. on Sundays.

Make sure you buy an “All Pretty Girls Eat Where? Country Cookin” shirt! (Sorry, I didn’t catch what the price was)

Overall Experience

Now, when you go, you may be taken aback at first by the neighborhood, but don’t let that stop you from going here! Our experience was terrific and memorable. The people were great and beautiful! Country Cookin is bringing light to this community, and I pray for much success for this business. We will be back soon to try other items on the menu and to check in with Ms. Saudia too! We loved her!

And as her saying goes “Y’all see it!”

Yes! Now, make your way there to get a plate! Haha!
