Night At The Museum ~

Night At The Museum was very similar to The Museum Mile Festival I went to recently. It gave you free access to many museums and tours in lower Manhattan, New York. It included: African Burial Ground National Monument, China Institute, Federal Hall National Memorial, Fraunces Tavern, Lower Manhattan Tours, Museum Of Jewish Heritage, National Archives At New York City, National Museum Of The American Indian, National September 11 Memorial & Museum, 9/11 Tribute Museum, NYC Municipal Archives, Poet House, The Skyscraper Museum, and South Street Seaport Museum.

The event was from 4-8 p.m., and I only got to attend two. Even though the monument and museum I chose were very mournful places (I would recommend bringing tissues), I enjoyed immersing myself into all the history and culture.

African Burial Ground National Monument

This national monument was built to pay respect to free and enslaved Africans in North America. The artwork was beautiful with notable meanings surrounding the burial area. I captured some of them below. It was special to go to the burial grounds on Juneteenth, a day that commemorates emancipation from slavery.

If you are going to attend this monument, there is construction going on to give you heads up. It has free admission and the hours of operation is 10 a.m – 4 p.m Tuesday through Saturday. Closed Sundays and Mondays.

National September 11 Memorial & Museum

I remember being in my art class when the tragedy of September 11 happened. It was on every television in my high school. It was such a sad day. I will never forget it. I’m glad I finally got a chance to go to this museum. It has so much to look at inside. It will take a while for you to go through everything entirely, so make sure your schedule is open.

The museum is open Monday through Sunday 9 a.m – 8 p.m (6 p.m last entry). Tickets start at $24.
