Preparation Before The Trip ~

When it comes to getting ready for a trip, I like to do preparation two or three weeks ahead of departure. It gives me time to think clearly about everything I will need and what all I have to put together; so, I’m not running around at the last minute. I know a lot of us are guilty of this. I, myself included.  Not preparing well, can cause you to forget important items, and even miss your flight. Something you want to avoid, especially for international flights.

The number one thing you should ask yourself, “W.H.W” “Where am I going, how many days, and what will I be doing?” That way, you will know the appropriate luggage, clothing, and other necessities (ex. toiletries, medicine, and money) to bring with you.

Once you have determined “W.H.W,” then you are on the right track to preparing for your trip. Now if traveling internationally, you want to make sure to have the proper documentation that is required, you’re up-to-date on your medical record, and have checked on the State Department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for information about your destination. There is an app called Smart Traveler that can help you with that information as well. It’s always a good idea to be cautious of your safety and health.

Lastly, make sure to take care of your home before you leave. You wouldn’t want to come back from a spectacular vacation to stumbling upon a chaotic and troublesome scene, would you? I think not!

Below is a checklist I have created for you guys:

  • Check the weather for the location.
  • Pack your luggage ahead of time.
  • Get a lock for your luggage or buy luggage with a built-in lock.
  • Get up-to-date with vaccinations (Do research).
  • Have proper documentation (Passport, Visas, IDs, etc.).
  • Make copies of your Passport, IDs, and Credit Cards (You can email yourself as well). In a case of theft or lost.
  • Call your Banking and Credit card institutions to alert you will be traveling.
  • Call your cell phone provider too.
  • Tidy your house/apartment.
  • Water plants.
  • Check mail or go to Post Office to hold mail for the duration of your trip
  • Arrange for someone or someplace to watch your animals, car, and house/apartment depending on how long you will be gone.
  • Make sure all items in the home are shut off, and doors/windows are locked.
  • Give a contact list to someone, just in case of emergencies.

I hope this helps! Usually, this is my preparation to-do list. However, everyone’s circumstances are different so adjust accordingly to what suits your needs.
